Why do I have to take a course if I’m over 18?

On July 1, 2014, a new law went into effect that requires new driver’s license applicants to complete an Adult Driver Education Course prior to applying for an Illinois driver’s license if no qualifying driver education course had been completed prior to age 18.

What if I took Drivers Ed in High School already?

If an applicant provides proof of successful completion of a high school driver education program to the Secretary of State’s Office, they will be allowed to apply for an Illinois driver’s license without taking the Adult Driver Education Course. Acceptable proof would be a certified transcript from your high school showing a passing grade.

What is your refund policy?

Refunds are issued up to the first day of class. There will be a non-refundable registration fee that will not be returned.

Does the law also require behind the wheel training?

No. Illinois law requires the six-hour course only.  You can purchase behind-the-wheel instruction separately.

What happens when I complete the course?

You will receive an email from the Secretary of State at the email address you provided. This email will include a link where you can download your Certificate of Completion. Once you have printed the certificate, you can take it to the Secretary of State, along with your required identification documents to take your road test.
